Celldweller: Wish Upon A Blackstar (Album Review)

With over 30,000,000 online plays, a previous #1 iTunes Electronic Album, and over 150,000 fans across the internet its no wonder the people have been hounding for a new album! Allow me to introduce you to Detroit native, Celldweller.  He’s been creating music since the late 90’s and through that has gained a very loyal fan base to go with it! Garnering support from Skrillex, Excision, FIGURE, and Dieselboy, just to name a few, Celldweller is everything electronic and more. His sound is very unique, mixing in elements of electronic rock, industrial metal, dubstep and electro house. I had the opportunity to preview Celldweller's highly anticipated sophomore album, “Wish Upon A Blackstar”, and it is phenomenal.

The 16-song album flows flawlessly from song to song and has very captivating sounds that vary throughout. Something very unique about this electronic album is that it tells a story. The lyrics are written to fit the theme of the album and with each new song, more is revealed. Two tracks on the album that I absolutely loved were #2, Unshakable and #10, The Seven Sisters. I am in love with the down-tempo style of The Seven Sisters mixed with a few wobbles and well thought out lyrics. I Can’t Wait is #7 on the album and it’s a bit more of a screamo hard rock track that really brings me back to my days as a 16 year old loving to go see Billy Talent and Anti-Flag. The mix between electronic and rock music makes for a great album to rage to or to just chill and sing along. From the first to last song, the album is very well constructed.

Celldweller produces music that is simply put, multifaceted. It’s really like nothing you have ever heard before. I highly suggest checking out his latest album. The sheer talent of playing every instrument on the album and providing killer vocals is amazing! It’s a different sound than anything I’ve put on here before and I’m totally digging it! I’m looking forward to more releases from Celldweller, but for now, let’s just bask in the glory of his latest masterpiece, “Wish Upon A Blackstar”.

Rating: 4.2/5
