Dash Berlin with ATB vs. Niki and The Dove- DJ Ease My Apollo Road

Though I’m usually not a fan of mashups, this one is beautifully crafted and the two parts match perfectly, creating a new and crisp sound. Dash has dropped this in several of his sets, including EDC, getting nothing but positive vibes from crowds alike. Hard trance is the perfect accompaniment for the electro pop voice of Malin Dahlström from Swedish trio “Niki and the Doves.”

Banger On the Decks 2.0: W&W- Moscow

Writing this post brings me back to my first post for Social Talk, also by W&W, an incredible duo, who have brought the house down once again with their latest, “Moscow”. It was featured in A State of Trance 550 and should not go unnoticed. It’s a beautiful trance piece that crosses over into progressive house, creating a true masterpiece!

Exclusive Interview: DJ Reidiculous

About one year ago I downloaded my first DJ Reidiculous remix, "The Show Goes On", original by Lupe Fiasco and I loved it! I could hear the talent in the remix and quickly checked out his other releases. I've been following the very talented house/dutch house/electro DJ/producer, DJ Reidiculous, and since then he has released numerous remixes that are all amazing! He has over 12,000 likes on Facebook and with many of his remixes having hundreds of thousands of hits, this guy is going places! I was so happy to hear that Reid Stefanick AKA DJ Reidiculous would do an interview with me! Check it out below.

Let’s kick things off with how you started working in the music industry as a DJ/Producer?

I’ve been DJing parties ever since I was 15 or 16. I got started in the performance side of stuff long before I got into the production side of stuff. It wasn’t until I was about 20 that I started making my own music.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. How old are you? Where do you come from? Where did you attend university?

I’m 22 years old. I was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, and I attended university at a school in Northern New Jersey where I got a bachelors in radio/tv production.

Think back to a while ago to your first show. Where was it? How was the crowd? Did you get good response?

Technically, My first dj performance was a sweet sixteen for my friend. I was fifteen at the time. I did it for free, but during that party someone booked me for their sweet sixteen the following night and I made like $200 and was excited as hell. My first club performance as Reidiculous was actually only about 6 months ago at a night club in new york city. The place went bonkers and the owner and promoter invited me back for a few more nights.

Name the track you play every set, no matter what. Is there one?

Ironically, I always play my remix of 'No Hands' by Waka Flocka, which was the first remixes I ever made and posted on YouTube. As far as production quality goes, it blows, but it’s such a great hybrid rap/dance track.

Brand New: Zeds Dead- "The Living Dead EP"

Zeds Dead released their EP "The Living Dead" a few minutes ago and it may prove to be their most versatile release to date! With hip-hop, dubstep, a little rock and of course some filthy drops,  this EP is dope. Omar Linx shines through as always with his distinct voice and captivating lyrics. From "Crank" to "Cowboy" you'll have this on repeat! Check it out on beatport here and grab your copy!

Exclusive Interview: John Roman (TO)

With a sound so unique, innovative and raw, I was beyond stoked to hear back from John Roman himself saying that he was going to do an interview with me. John Roman is incredibly talented. His music is addictively rhythmic and to see him play live is well worth your dollar. He’s gained a lot of notoriety during his career as a producer thus far. His original tracks, “Sala” and “Petrified” have even been featured in Laidback Luke’s BBC Radio1 Essential Mix and he has gained support ranging from Riton, Fake Blood, Harvard Bass and not to mention, Skrillex! And if you didn’t already know this, he’s done official remixes for Crookers (Mad Decent), Nouveau Yorican (Defected), Sinden (Grizzly), and Sound of Stereo (Lektroluv). His DJ sets are infused with a mix of techno, bass, house, garage, dubstep and hip-hop. But without giving away too much, check out the interview. John Roman delivers on his beginnings, some major accomplishments and the ins and outs of being a rising producer!

Let’s kick things off with how you started working in the music industry as a DJ/Producer?

I began experimenting with production software around 13. It was mainly hip-hop production, usually sample-based stuff as that’s what I was mostly listening to. I was aware of house and techno, but none of the mainstream stuff really appealed to me, and I was unaware of the more underground music I’ve come to love now. It was originally acts like Justice, Soulwax, MSTRKRFT and Switch that got me into dance music, and that was around my first/second year of university. My first tracks were heavily inspired by that sound and gained a lot of attention. From that point on I’ve just been educating myself, refining my sound and moving steadily forward with each new opportunity.

Think back a couple of years to your first show. Where was it? How was the crowd? Did you get good response?

My first club show was at the Frog in London, ON in 2009. It was intimidating as a first show because I had to play in the front room from 10pm to close, which is about 4.5 hours of music. So if something were to go wrong it’s not like I could just finish up my time-slot and get out of there, I had to stay and deal with whatever problems for a full night. Luckily, there weren’t any really. I had planned out my set so carefully, and all of my friends came out to support me which meant so much. People were up on couches and tables, banging on the ducts like it was a Sean Paul video, and an “encore” chant actually started when the lights came on, which looking back and hearing about other first-show nightmares, was a pretty incredible and fortunate experience.

Wolfgang Gartner - Flexx (Original Mix)

I’ve actually had this track a little while now, and just haven’t gotten around to posting it, but it is definitely not one to be skipped over. Wolfgang is one of the artists I just found out I’ll be seeing in Dublin in just over a month, and I am so bloody excited, especially to hear Flexx, a kickass hard hitting electro track. Fans are happy to hear this as he has been criticized for being too progressive lately (though, I have had no complaints on that front). Says Gartner, ““I have to make something that’s never been made before; have to make the best thing that I’ve ever done in my life - otherwise it gets stagnant or worse,” Well Wolfgang, you have succeeded, so good on ya.

K

Adventure Club - Wait (The Killabits Remix) (Free Download)

Check out this killer drumstep remix by Toronto based porduction/DJ duo, The Killabits, released just a few minutes ago. It's a remix of Montreal production/DJ duo Adventure Club's "Wait". The remix is a whole lot of dubstep/elctro/drumstep mixed into one and I'm really digging it. The original was good to begin with but this remix really sets itself apart bringing a banging new sound to this track! Check it out below, it's also a free download.

Dash Berlin ft Chris Madin - Silence In Your Heart (Antillas Remix)

I haven’t been finding much trance that truly pulls my heartstrings lately, but Dash Berlin is never one to disappoint, and Antillas remix of Silence in your heart is absolutely beautiful.  As I lay on the beach looking at George Clooneys villa (not to brag or anything..), this song was he perfect soundtrack, and I highly encourage you to try the same, whether you’re at Port Dalhousie, Lake Muskoka, Grand Bend or somewhere across the world, like me!

Florence and the Machine - Howl (Shane Martz Remix)

I have a feeling most of you are going to like this song, a lot. Shane Martz is back with his remix to Florence and the Machine's 'Howl' and again, he's provided some unreal mellow dubstep for us to enjoy. The original, 'Howl', comes from Florence and the Machine's debut album, Lungs and the mix between Florence's beautiful voice and Martz's unique dubstep style makes for a great tune. Perfect for a drive or a  stroll to Starbucks on one of the these beautiful summer days in Toronto. This is by no means a dubstep banger, however, the production quality is there along with a perfect amount of wobbles to mix it up a bit. Check it out below, it's also a free download in the comment section on SoundCloud!

Cheers,

Brand New: Colin Munroe ft Pusha T - The Fight Of My Life - Zeds Dead Remix

Zeds Dead just dropped their remix to Colin Munroe featuring Pusha T's "The Fight of My Life" and I'm really feeling it. It's a laid-back dub remix that stays true to the original, yet gives you that extra punch you know and love coming from Zeds Dead. Zeds Dead is headlining the Mad Decent Bloc Party this July 28, 2012 at Dundas Square in Toronto. It's all ages and it's free! Check out the dubstep duo's latest remix, below!

Chuckie - Who Is Ready To Jump (Dzeko & Torres Remix)

Another quality remix from Toronto production duo Dzeko & Torres. Check out the full version of their remix to Chuckie's "Who Is Ready to Jump". Their remix brings a whole new sound to this track and I like it! It's not quite as heavy as the original, which I'm digging, and the big room sound production is amazing! Check it out below, these guys are really going places!

Saturday Sunset Volume 1: Moby - Lie Down In Darkness (Arno Cost Remix)

Zeds Dead & Omar LinX - The Living Dead (Official Video)

Check out this pretty epic debut music video from Zeds Dead for their latest track "The Living Dead". It's an ode to Pulp Fiction and stars Peter Greene, who plays Zed in the original movie. It's a really off-beat, different sort of production and I love it. Very original for music video's these days. Not to mention, the song is dope as well. Big-ups to Zeds Dead! They'll be playing Mad Decent Block Party July 28th at Dundas Square in Toronto!

Rusko- Thunder ft Bonnie McKee (Tantrum Desire Remix)

Rusko is no new name to the EDM scene, and his newest track Thunder truly portrays the years of experience he has in the industry. His new album “Songs” is absolutely killer and Thunder simply stellar. It’s a high-energy track with an thrilling melody and beautiful vocals! The remix adds some fast pace hard hits that are exhilarating to say the least!

Banger On The Decks: Basto - I Rave You (Original Mix)

Belgian producer, Basto, known for his remix to “Wild Ones”, released his newest track, “I Rave You” a few months ago, and though I’ve now had it for a while, it has been growing on me, and now is one of my favourites. The bass and builds are absolutely KILLER. His previous tracks have been much more progressive than this electro house one, but I am liking, no, loving what I’m hearing (which is currently, the mad awesome drop at just after 3 and a half minutes in..). Basto, I rave to you.

Escapade Music Festival Review feat. ClassAct (Full Set/Free Download)

Escapade Music Festival took place in Ottawa during the Canada Day weekend. The two-day EDM festival attracted more than 15,000 guests, with an outstanding artist lineup. Avicii, Afrojack, Eric Prydz, and Alesso were a few of the many superstar names that shook Ottawa Stadium to the ground. Three stages also allowed for musical diversity. The Bassmentality stage included artists such as Zeds Dead, Dillon Francis, and Excision.

ClassAct, a Social Talk favourite, had the chance to play the festival and he rocked the show! He performed a full set containing all original material. Check out the set, it's also a free download!

Sunday Funday 9: Elton Versus Pnau - Good Morning To The Night

Elton John vs. Pnau’s album is incredible. Having been raised listening to The Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Guess Who and none other than Elton John, I have become very familiar with his style and music... however his collaborations with Pnau are simply stunning. “Good Morning to the Night” is a softer electro style, however, it screams summer, and beer and sunshine, and isn’t that what all of us want these days? The classic feel from both artists is beautifully crafted creating a great tune!

Above & Beyond - On My Way To Heaven (feat. Richard Bedford) (Seven Lions Remix)

I had this song sent over to me by a friend about a week ago and just listened to it yesterday and it's pretty unreal. Seven Lions does a great job remixing this Above & Beyond banger. Nothing too heavy, but definitely a dubstep track worth checking out below.

Friday Night Pre-Drink 13: Fedde le Grand & Nicky Romero ft. Matthew Koma - Sparks

FINALLY RELEASED !

I have been waiting weeks for this to be officially released after hearing a version of it from EDC Las Vegas and plenty of teasers. The video is so sick, and makes me crave a festival like right now. Fedde Le Grand’s amazing production skills together with Romero’s fresh electronic style leads to a truly fantastic sound.

Animal Kingdom - Strange Attractor (Dzeko & Torres Remix Preview)

I believe we have a banger on our hands! Dzeko & Torres released a preview of their latest remix, "Strange Attractor", original by Animal Kingdom, and it's sounding really good. The Toronto based production duo really knows how to get the crowd moving and this is another quality track to add to their seemingly every-growing list of hits! It's due to be released in the next little while, free of charge (look out for it). Dzeko & Torres prove yet again that they are valiant when it comes to remixing and can master anything. Can't wait for the finished product, we'll be waiting guys. Have a listen and let me know what you think in the comment section below.

Tiesto & Showtek - Hell Yeah

This combination of one of the top djs to ever hit this earth, Tiesto, and the dutch duo Showtek have created a masterpiece, and it’s called “Hell Yeah”. The bassline is killer, and the track perfectly incorporates both of their styles. Can’t say I have any complaints in regards to “Hell Yeah”.
